By making the knowledge and experience earned through our obsession with tea in our birthplace of Yamashiro, Kyoto our foundation, and utilizing the senses we have honed in the business capital of Shinsaibashi, Osaka, Uji-en continues to contribute to people’s health, well-being and bountiful lives.
Founded in 1869 in Yamashiro, Kyoto, with Genbei Shigemura as a middle man, Uji-en undertook the challenges of wholesale business, in-house processing, and expanding retail into the business capital of Osaka. Uji-en’s history is one filled with endeavors to adapt to the needs of the times.
Since entering the 21st century, Uji-en has continued its history of undertaking challenges such as opening various tea shops in department stores and shopping centers, selling tea-based sweets, opening tearooms, Japanese cafes, and matcha bars, and also expanding into overseas markets. Striving forward, we believe that this tireless repeated pursuit of new challenges is key to our continued business.
